世界基督教教会联合会给胡锦涛主席的一封信

尊敬的主席先生：

惊悉上周袭击四川省的灾难性地震已吞噬数万生命，并损毁众多房屋，学校，公路与桥梁时，我们感到万分难过。在此我谨代表世界基督教教会联合会和它所有的成员组织，向您，中国政府，地震遇难者家属，以及为这场自然灾害中失去生命和失踪的数万群众而悲痛哀悼的全中国人民致以最诚挚的慰问。

尊敬的主席先生，您的国家和人民正在经受一次国难的巨大痛苦，我代表世界基督教教会联合会向您保证，我们将与中国人民携手，共同努力，减轻四川地震受害者所遭受的痛苦。自从得悉您的国家发生了大地震之后，我们就与中国基督教协会和爱德基金会的朋友们取得了联系，我们得知中国基督教协会和爱德基金会已在第一时间与当地政府、四川省基督教协会和当地其他合作伙伴合作，进行紧急救援和灾后重建工作。世界基督教教会联合会及其成员教会的人道主义救援机构-----总部在日内瓦的国际救灾联盟(ACT)已经开始动员它在各国的所有成员机构, 通过其在中国的成员机构----爱德基金会为灾区人民提供尽可能的帮助。

令人振奋的是，我们得知中国政府和其他组织已经成功实施了紧急救援工作。我真诚的为你们祈祷，同时希望这些努力能够减轻受灾群众的苦难。

尊敬的主席先生，在您的国家举国同悲的时刻，我想向您保证，分布在世界各地的各界基督教教会联合会的成员，将心系您和中国人民，与你们共度难关。

It was with great sadness that we received the news about the disastrous earthquake which

struck the Sichuan Province in China last week and which claimed thousands of lives, and

razed houses, schools, roads and bridges. On behalf of the World Council of Churches

(WCC) and our members around the world, I express our most sincere condolences to you,

your government, family members of the victims and the entire Chinese people who mourn

and grieve over the loss of thousands of lives and the missing of numerous people due to

the natural disaster.

Your Excellency, while your country and people are experiencing such pain and ordeal at

this time of a national crisis, I assure you that the WCC is committed to join hands with the

people of China in their efforts to reduce and alleviate the sufferings of the affected victims

in the Sichuan Province. Ever since the news about the earthquake was reported, we have

been in touch with our friends and colleagues at the China Christian Council (CCC) and the

Amity Foundation. We came to know that both CCC and the Amity Foundation have

immediately joined with the local governments, Sichuan Christian Council and other

partners in the affected areas in relief and rehabilitation efforts. The humanitarian aid arm

of the WCC and its member churches, Action by Churches Together (ACT) here in Geneva

began a process to mobilise its members in various countries to extend all possible

assistance to the people in affected areas in the coming days through its member, the Amity

Foundation.

It was heartening to know of the success of the immediate rescue and relief operations

undertaken by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and various other

organizations. It is my earnest prayer and hope that these efforts will reduce the sufferings

of the affected people.

Your Excellency, at this hour of grief and mourning in your country, I want to assure you

that the thoughts and solidarity of millions of WCC members from around the world will

accompany you and the people of China.

爱德基金会丘仲辉秘书长给Samuel Kobia牧师的回信:

尊敬的塞缪尔• 考比亚牧师，

您好！

非常感谢您给我国国家主席胡锦涛先生写的慰问信，你对四川地震灾民的关心深深打动了我们。

您对爱德基金会救灾工作的关切也感动和鼓舞了我们。爱德虽为一家小规模机构，亦在竭尽全力多帮助受灾群众。五月十二日地震发生当天，我会即派遣了一名工作人员到达灾区查看灾情、评估需求。爱德随即向合作伙伴和朋友包括国际救灾联盟发出救灾呼吁，并得到了及时和慷慨的回应，爱德得以购买了大量的救灾物资包括彩条防雨布、衣物、被子、油、瓶装水和食品并发放到重灾区。目前，爱德三名员工正带领着10名志愿者在受灾最重的地区工作。爱德计划不久再派一支心理救援队前往灾区。灾区房屋、学校、医院和基础设施的重建计划正在制定之中，以使地震幸存者在经历地震的创伤后生活能恢复正常。

四川人民并非孤立无援，有无数的机构和朋友正和他们一起抗灾减灾。这是中国基督徒和世界其他国家基督徒通过提供帮助、见证上帝之爱的时刻。我们对世界基督教教会联合会及其成员组织的慷慨捐助和支持表示最诚挚的感谢！

Dear Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia,

Warm greetings from Amity!

Thank you very much for your condolence letter addressed to our President, Mr. Hu Jintao. We are deeply touched by your care and concern for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

We are also very moved and encouraged by your kind words regarding Amity’s relief work for the earthquake. Although a small organization, Amity is trying its best to help more people. When the devastating earthquake struck on May 12, we were able to send an Amity staffer immediately to the earthquake area to assess the situation and the local needs. This was followed by an appeal to our partners and friends, including ACT, who responded very quickly and generously. Their prompt response has enabled Amity to purchase and distribute substantial amounts of relief goods such as tarpaulins, clothes, quilts, oil, bottled water and food to the hardest hit areas. Currently three Amity staff, leading a team of 10 volunteers, is working in the most severely affected areas. Amity plans to send another team of professional counselors to the affected areas very soon. Plans are underway for the rebuilding of homes, schools, clinics and infrastructure so that survivors can regain some form of normalcy after such a traumatic experience.

The people of Sichuan are not alone as there are so many organizations and friends who have joined hands with them in the efforts to reduce and alleviate the suffering of victims. It has been an opportunity for Christians in China and around the world to bear witness to God's encompassing love by extending their help. We are extremely grateful to the World Council of Churches and all its members for the outpouring of contributions and support.
